This residence of daimyo minister (Saigo Tanomo) is a fine gathering of magnificent samurai residences of Japanese-Western architectural style from the middle of the Edo Period
Each of the 38 rooms displays armor, weapons, and furnishings of the time.
There is also the national cultural treasure, Nakahata Jinya; a tea ceremony room; Northeast Japan’s largest rice grinder which ground rice for the samurai squad, an Aizu history building, etc.
Visitors can eat Aizu country cooking at a “Kuyotei dining hall”, and at “Satokobokokon” there are Aizu and Fukushima’s famous confections, products, and craft works.
