During the Warring States Period, a man named Anazawa’s powerful clan controlled Fukushima Prefecture’s Kitashiobara Village Hibara Castle district. Anazawa served Aizu’s feudal lord, Ashina in the Hibara area bordering the Date Clan’s domain. In the Eiroku years, 1558-70, Date Terumune attacked this area twice, but Anazawa Toshitsune and Toshimitsu drove him away.

In November,1584 (Tensho 12), the Date family’s new leader was Date Masamune, who entered Aizu area through Hibara Pass. At that time some members of Anazawa’s group betrayed him, and when Date attacked, he gained control of the Hibara district.
