Beppu area is on one of Aizu's five Roads, the one road to Yonezawa (now the prefectural road from Kamakura to Shiokawa), and both of the marker-mounds here have kept their original shape.

During the Edo Period, milestones all over the country were maintained, but few remain and these are important documents in the history of transportation in Aizu. Nowadays, there are not many, and the remaining important mounds from the old days have been maintained. They have been sitting along the road ever since, and still look at passersby.
