The name Danjogahara comes from the fact that it was the residence of the samurai, Kurimura Danjokiyomasa.
During the war years, Kurimura was a vassal of Ashina clan, and generations of his family continued to live in the area.
At that time, the town square was alive with large zelkova trees. It is said that their leader, Uryu Chokunana, climbed this sort of tree to deliver a speech to the masses.
