At the beginning of the Heian Period, 807 (Daido 2) Nara's Hosso sect's monk, Tokuichi, erected Enichi Temple at the foot of Mt. Bandai.

In Showa 45 (1970) it was made a national historic ruin, as the start of Aizu's Buddhist culture, and the town guards and preserves this tradition. Along with excavation, development was analyzed and decided on, and the historic ruins are being restored.
This Enichi Temple Kondo ("Golden Hall" or compound centerpiece) dates from Heisei 17(2006). After 3 years in restoration it was reopened for visitors.
(The main building, a National historic ruin, has been repaired and it is the first time in Japan a kondo has been revived.)

Except for foundation platform, we think materials and construction techniques along with the architecture are just as the founder, Tokuichi, imagined it long ago, so these days the Kondo has been brought to life again.
