According to the oldest records, if we go back 1200 years, “this area gave a fourth-position ranking to the Iwasaki god”, and it is said that this shrine is the oldest built in the region.
After that, sometimes there were good and bad times and, in Manji 2 (1659) Aizu clan’s first daimyo, Hoshina Masayuki, prayed here so that after his death it became a shrine dedicated to him. In his will he expressed his wish to be buried at Hanitsu Shrine.
