Many rivers flow into Lake Inawashiro, but the only river flowing out into the Aizu Basin is the Nippashi River, which flows under Jurrokyo all the way to Asakasosui. In Bunka 6 (1809) it was completed a ccording to the "New Edition of Aizu Topography" and at first had mounds with imbedded logs in the river, designed by Kukai to form a 16-section bridge. The current one has a Stoney system sluice gate from the early Taisho Period. To the west of the bridge there is a bronze statue of Dutch engineer Van Doorn, who designed the Asakusasosui water system, and the Tonokuchi sluice gate office.
