Hirayama Castle was built on the mud flow terrain projecting from Mt. Bandai's southern foot, and was the castle residence of many generations of Inawashiro rulers. Inawashiro always had a strong, independent nature, and during the battle, the daimyo, Ashina, commanded his samurai in many battles; and while Date Masamune and Ashina fought, Inawashiro-san and his son fought on opposite sides in the Battle of Surikamihara. After this, until the end of the conflict, Sendai clan warriors lived and practiced at Date's residence.
During the Boshin War, the building was burned and reduced to rubble, but the stone wall foundation remains to this day.
