Kashima Shrine Hokyo Pagoda
Phone:―
Yama-gun, Inawashiro-machi Oaza, Nakakomatsu Aza, Matsumura Minami
This Hokyoin pagoda consists of a body, umbrella, and finial in a square shaped, one piece tower, and it is believed that the name comes from the "Hokyoin sutra litany" put inside.
The Hokyoin pagoda's shape is well-proportioned and beautiful, and a big feature is the base supporting three stages, separated from the umbrella roof by three decorated steps.
Time of construction and the name of the carver are illegible, but the shape definitely resembles the prefecture's Kannon Temple Hokyoin Pagoda made during the Oei Era (1394-1428), and is probably from the same time period.
