In Oei 28 (1422), the monk Ketsudo came to Aizu, and with 11th generation Ashina Morishin erected Tennei Temple. In the past, the Aizu Soto sect monks recorded 33 branch temples and counted it temple 12. Later during Date's invasion they were burned, and only vestiges like the cornerstone of Ashina's Bodai Temple remain.
Behind Tennei Temple is the cemetery of the Shinsengumi and the grave of Kondo Isami. Hijikata Toshizo possessed a lock of the deceased痴 hair and other things, and during the Aizu War, he buried it temporarily here.
On April 25th, the date of Kondo Isami's death, a festival is held in front of the grave.
In addition, the feudal lord, Matsudaira Katamori, worked in Kyoto as a guardian of military minister Kayano Gonbei, the man held responsible for the Boshin War. He was ordered to commit ritual suicide in Meiji 2 (1869) and now rests in the tomb with his second son, Gun Nagamasa.
