We have no idea where Niomon was at first, but we think it was built at Enichi Temple near the end of Edo Period. In Meiji 5 (1872) when the building enshrining the statue of The Healing Buddha burned, along with the bell tower, Niomon was left standing. Up until now, it has been moved three times. In the middle of the Edo Period, Nio statues were placed to the left and right of a ground with flat stones set into it.
While it was being repaired in Showa 45 (1970), the bottoms of the columns were cut to shorten the height, and we don't know how tall it used to be. However, the size of Niomon indicates its large scale, with a thick and not so common wooden supporting frame, a special quality making it an important building at Enichi Temple nowadays.
