Two kilometers southeast of Tsuruga Castle is a tiny mountain (372 m) called Odayama Park. At the foot of the mountain ridge, there are ruins of the temple relating to the renowned Ashiya family. Near the summit of the mountain there is a tomb of Tanaka Genzai, of the famous Aizu Clan.
Looking down from Tsuruga Castle you can see that this spot where the new national army encamped during the Boshin War was easily seen by the men inside, giving them a strategic advantage. In addition, from a hill on the east-northeast side of the mountain, Wakamatsu 65th and 29th regiments engaged in live fire.
Now it is maintained as a park through which we can enjoy a stroll in any season.
