Located 1,000 meters above sea level, Oguninuma is a caldera lake west of Mt. Bandai, caused by volcanic activity in the Nekoma volcano a long time ago. The pond developed on a slope on a high moor, and became a stunning landscape with over 300 species of plants, such as skunk cabbage, Tateyama gentian, cotton sedge, alpine day lilies etc., that enjoy growing in high, damp areas.
We take care to preserve this wetland area and restrict walking to an 843-meter boardwalk through it.
The entire Oguninuma area forms a National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary and is a national natural treasure, so in these wetlands it is forbidden to collect plants and animals.
