This round ended tumulus dates back to the early Kofun Period and is the best in the Tohoku area.
With a length of about 115 meters, with the front of the mound made in two tiers and the rounded back end in two or three stages. We can't locate the facing stones or unglazed earthenware things.
At the rounded rear side, two wooden tombs (South Kofun and North Kofun) were discovered. In the south one they found a bevel-edged deity and beast mirror rimmed with triangles, a sword with a round pommel, jade comma-shaped jewels, jewelry, farm tools, etc. In the north tomb they excavated jewelry, weapons, tools etc. These had been made between the middle and end of the 4th century.
It was designated a National Historic Site in 1972. The contents were also designated as important cultural property.
