Hoshina Masayuki was born as Tokugawa's second shogun, Hide Tada's, fourth child, and became the feudal lord of Shinshu , Dewamogami, and Aizu areas.
Sometime before his death he came to Aizu, saw Lake Inawashiro and the Mt. Bandai piedmont, and decided this was where he wished to be laid to rest.
To the right of Hanitsu Shrine there is a cedar tree on the stone path (now being repaired), and if you go up the path a little you will come to another inner sanctuary and the grave.
