Enichi Temple's principal image is the Healing Buddha, and it is one of Aizu's five Yakushi, which everyone refers to as "Toho Yakushi" Since the Middle Ages, Enichi Temple has had a basic belief in The Healing Buddha, and it is common for believers to pray here for longevity and recovery from illness, for birth and raising of children, and continuing the family line of descendants.
After the early Meiji Era, the Yakushido was ruined, and Bandai Shrine was used in the interim. In Meiji 5 it was burned down in a fire. However, local residents wanted to rebuild Yakushido, and in Meiji 32, (1899) they rebuilt it as a hipped structure with a beam about six meters in length.
Enichi Temple was first built by Tokuichi, and was the main center for the spread of Buddhist Yakushi faith in the Aizu area. After that it became one of the Aizu's five Yakushi much revered by the faithful etc., and the history of Enichi Temple continued with this important structure.
