In former times, Osangai was a building inside Tsuruga Castle's inner citadel. From the outside it looked like a three story building, but inside it had four layers with a place to have secret rituals.
Osangai was inside the main enclosure of Tsuruga Castle main building, but in Meiji 3 (1870), it was transferred to Amida Temple where it was used as a temporary main hall. In addition to this, Amida Temple contains the tombs of Sato Hajime and war dead from the Boshin War, and a monument to Kayano Gonbei Yohai.
