This is the mausoleum of The Ashina family that dominated Aizu for three generations during 400 years of the Middle Ages.
There are three 5-stage erections in a line with characters for sky, wind, fire, water and earth chiseled into them. These are monuments for Moriuji, the famous 16th generation Daimyo and Oshu痴 leader during the Warring States conflict. The Ashina family had its golden age under famous 17th generation Morioki and, while 18th generate Moritaka was still young, he was already a good samurai with many great honors.
On the north side there is one more graveyard (name unknown), but this side is called "Hanamigaoka Moribyo" and we believe it has from 11 to 19 cemeteries for Ashina generations.
Moreover, to the south on the middle of Mt. Oda there are three to nine graves called "Kotobukiyamabyo" but now we are not exactly sure.
