In Showa 2 (1313) these inscriptions were written to commemorate the Year of the OX. To the left and right are inscribed esoteric mantra characters Kongokai Dainichi Nyorai (Ban) and Muryo Kotobuki (Amida An) of the Buddha, sitting in a lotus position, that were carved with a moat-shaped carving style (the groove being V-shaped). The steles were erected as memorials for the dead during the Kamakura and Muromachi Periods, but the Kamai Stele belongs to the end of the Kamakura Period. Along with Shimada Stele, it has great value as a precious memorial stone.
