Tanaka Masaharu was Hoshina Masayuki's clan family member and head vassal for 34 years, and worked at Inawashiro Castle for five years; it was a base for the clan. Tanaka was born on Sado island on June 17 in Keicho 18 (1613), and when he was six years old got together with Masayuki in Shinshu Takato, gradually receiving promotions. Masayuki worked as a counselor for fourth generation feudal lord, Ietsuna, in Tokyo. At the times when Aizu was left unattended, Tanaka had heavy responsibilities. On May 28, Kanbun 12 (1672), Tanaka became ill and passed away, and Masayuki and the people at the castle mourned him as if they had lost a parent.
