Just a 15-minute walk east of Tsuruga Castle, growing around a pond shaped like the kanji character for spirit, there is a wonderful landscape of many sorts of medicinal herbs (yaku), which is the origin of the name Oyaku-en garden. It is said that during the Muromachi Era, Ashina Morihisa build a villa on the spot of a natural spring.
In 1932 it was designated as a national place of scenic beauty, typical of the daimyo style of famous mountain-and-water landscape gardens that were established during the Tokugawa Period. Flowers are resplendent in all seasons, and the daimyo of the samurai clan loved this garden and its Japanese feeling. Please remove the fatigue of your day with a secret herbal tea you can taste only at Oyaku-en.
