This stone monument was erected in the cemetery of Shimada. It was made in Kagen 3 (1305), and with a beveled-style of carving, inscribed with characters of Sanscrit mantras for Kongokai Dainichi Nyorai and Amida Nyurai, sitting in a lotus position. Its large size is unequalled. The stele dates from the end of the Kamakura Period during its time of social unrest, and people in this feudal time prayed from the heart with their faith. It continues to be an important cultural heritage.
