Kyu Takizawa Honjin Old Former Stronghold (Nationally-designated Historical Ruins Site, nationally designated Important Cultural Property)
Phone:0242-22-8525
Aizu-Wakamatsu City, Ikki-machi, Takizawa 122
In the past this was the haven of the daimyo, and of his territorial patrol when he was away from the capitol. During the Boshin War it became the Byakkotai squad headquarters for the Battle of Kuchinohara.
This building in the Shoinzukuri Style has a thatched roof. It has been designated an Important National Cultural Property. At the gate there is a throne. The next room has been kept as it was in the old days and contains many things the daimyo used, that have been passed down through the generations along with tools, equipment, and old documents that have been kept here.
Here and there in the building there are scars from swords, and bullet holes. We have preserved the traces of the fight that happened at that time.
